three pieces for quartertone accordion (2013)

originally entitled 7 bagatelles, three pieces for quartertone accordion is another early work for a specially designed instrument built for Veli Kujala. As part of his PhD work at the Sibelius Academy, Veli commissioned Pigini accordion to make him an instrument capable of producing equal tempered quartertones on both sides of the instrument.

The three pieces are titled: aequale, homage to Louis Andriessen, and finale. All three movements together are 7-8 minutes in length. three pieces for quartertone accordion was premiered by Veli Kujala on September 23, 2013 at the Musiikkitalo in Helsinki, Finland.
